XPLX-Ray Vision on IKE
XPLX-Ray vision is an NSG proprietary software product that runs on ike manufactured by Surveylab in New Zealand, to deliver added value GIS capability to the ike’s standard capability.
ike combines a GPS, laser range finder, digital camera, compass and inclinometer all packaged in a single box. A key feature of the ike is that the user does not have to be on the site in question. He/she can be up to one kilometre away as long as the laser has line of sight which means data can be captured from a safe distance – e.g. from the levee, on stable ground, across the motorway or harbour from outside the building that might explode!
NSG’s XPLx-ray vision creates the ability to virtually "see through walls" and gain critical information about any object ike is pointed at. Utilising any existing spatial data, ike with XPLx-ray vision can retrieve relevant information without the users knowing where they are or what they are looking at. It enables the ike user to access, interrogate and update geospatial data in the field just be pointing the ike at a building, piece of land, or an outdoor device and pressing a few buttons.
ike can be installed with ESRI’s mobile mapping technology ArcPad in Windows mobile 5.0 environment and GPS data may be stored on SD cards or exchanged via Bluetooth and wireless devices.
ESRI spatial data shape files (point, polylines and polygons) can be created directly within the ike. Digital photo links are automatically created with a GPS position and stored as a hyperlink in the shape files thus eliminating the need for post-processing.
NSG has produced two versions of XPLx-ray vision: XPLx-ray vision - Identify and XPLx-ray vision - Verify.
Some examples of how XPLx-ray vision - Identify can be used on ike are:
- Identifying damaged areas in public infrastructure following a tsunami/flood for emergency services
- Identifying property details, ownership, internal floor plans, fire exits etc for police forces
- Identifying where toxic or poisonous material is stored for response crews etc.
Some examples of how XPLx-ray vision – Verify can be used on ike are:
- Identification of buildings and confirm if they are within a particular zone for development
- Identify and confirm if a yacht is at the correct mooring in the harbour
- Identify the location of a container on a wharf and verify its contents and delivery destination
